The successful candidate will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining commercial food equipment, and ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and safely. The technician will work from our facility and occasionally on customer sites.
This role involves collaborating closely with our technical team, providing support during installations, and assisting with training staff on equipment use and care. Salary: | $57,000 per annum–The gross salary paid is subject to all applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions. |

Vacation: | 4% of the gross salary |
Hours of Work: | 30 Hours a week; Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week |
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and apply complex blueprints, electrical schematics, refrigeration diagrams, and mechanical drawings to determine work procedures for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of diverse commercial food service equipment.
- Install, align, dismantle, and set up commercial food equipment such as ovens, blast chillers, slicers, and vacuum-packed sealing machines.
- Conduct thorough inspections and examinations of machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities, malfunctions, and root causes of failure across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and refrigeration components.
- Repair or replace faulty components, including motors, belts, valves, compressors, and control boards.
- Maintain mechanical systems including motors, gear drives, pneumatic lines, and hydraulic components.
- Service HVAC-integrated units, including fans, blowers, thermal sensors, and refrigeration & electrical components.
- Perform preventive maintenance such as lubrication, adjustments, and part inspections to prevent future faults.
- Keep accurate service records, inspection reports, and inventory logs.
- Adhere to safety standards, including electrical lockout procedures and manufacturer protocols.
- Assemble complex commercial kitchen equipment and sub-assemblies prior to installation and repair, utilizing hand and power tools, and specialized techniques.
Education and Experience Requirements
- A secondary school diploma, along with relevant training courses in the mechanical or electrical field, is required.
- Completion of a College program related to Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is considered as an asset.
- 1-2 years of hands-on experience as an Industrial Mechanic, Commercial Appliance Technician, or a similar role, with a demonstrated focus on electromechanical systems, refrigeration, and diagnostics is required.
- Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems, and HVAC components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and manuals.
- Proficient in using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and hoisting equipment.
- Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), pneumatic and vacuum systems will be considered as an asset.
