Position Summary
The Welder Supervisor oversees day-to-day welding and fabrication operations in the truck and trailer repair facility. This role involves performing complex welding work, ensuring quality control, training and mentoring, and maintaining production efficiency and safety standards in accordance with company and industry guidelines.
Major Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate activities of welders & fabricators to ensure production goals and quality standards are met.
- Lead and carry out complex welding, fabrication, and structural repairs on truck and trailer components such as frames, suspensions, cross members, bumpers, and upper couplers.
- Set up and operate welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, arc, gas, and brazing units, as well as metal-shaping and cutting machinery.
- Inspect, align, and secure components, jigs, and fixtures prior to welding to maintain structural alignment and precision.
- Adjust welding parameters and tooling to meet project requirements and quality standards.
- Collaborate with shop foremen and management to plan work schedules, material requirements, and priorities.
- Conduct quality checks on all welds and ensure compliance with company and industry standards (e.g., CSA, AWS).
- Maintain welding tools and shop equipment, perform basic preventative maintenance, and ensure a clean and safe work environment.
- Follow all health and safety policies and procedures, including PPE requirements and safe handling of welding materials and gases.
Requirements
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in welding and fabrication using MIG, TIG, and arc processes.
- Completion of secondary school is required.
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and industry safety standards.
- Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols accurately.
- Experience working with steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components.
- Team-oriented individual with ability to work independently and provide guidance to junior staff.
- Basic English language communication skills to instruct and follow guidelines.
